Docs That Rock

Everybody’s (Gonna Be) Talkin’

As a kid, my favorite album was Harry Nilsson’s The Point, about a boy named Oblio who grows up round-headed in a world full of pointy headed people. The LP came with a cartoon book and I spent many hours listening and reading along. (Wasn’t until my late 20s that I could order the VHS movie version off eBay! A treasure with delayed gratification!)

Nilsson had a lot more hits and cultural impact (Midnight Cowboy, anyone? Another flick where the world seemed different after I saw it.) He was also an integral part of John Lennon’s famed “Lost Weekend.” So I’m pretty excited that the TheWrap has reported that a new doc about Nilsson, Who Is Harry Nilsson (And Why Is Everybody Talkin’ About Him)
, will be in a limited theatrical run in September and out on DVD by the end of the year.

The doc features interviews with Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Micky Dolenz, Randy Newman, Yoko Ono, the Smothers Brothers, Robin Williams and many more. And its release is a long time coming: the doc had been seeking distribution since 2006.
