Docs That Rock

ANVIL Finally Gets Their Chance to Rock

Ever since Sundance last year, Anvil: The Story of Anvil has been a long standing favorite among the film festival circuit. In many ways, its the perfect way to launch this gem of the movie: get a critical mass of folks raving about it before you absolutely have to charge for ticket sales. Having a film that also uncannily transforms the audience into fans who have a vested interest in the band’s success is also part of the allure.

Now that the film has had its around the world tour, its time for Anvil to open in the U.S. There are press previews tonight and tomorrow night in NY and LA respectively and then the opening Friday. The rollout will be slow, capped by the Anvil Experience, where the band will play three songs at select venues after the screening.

I’ve written about the film before on this blog, but I’m happy to say that VH1 has joined the Anvil army! We’re helping to promote the movie (see attached VH1 News piece) and will air the film in July as part of our VH1 Rock Doc series when the DVD launches.

This might be an era when holding on to your dreams has resonance and hopefully that will help Anvil surmount the distribution challenges for small docs. As the band shouts, “keep on rocking!”
