Docs That Rock

The Burger and the King

I missed a rare showing of this 1996 doc last night at the IFC Center but in the new era of distribution, the whole flick is available on YouTube (in six parts, part one below.) But I love the topic: The Burger and the King: The Life and Cuisine of Elvis Presley. From Memphis to Vegas, the Elvis’ weird gastronomy is examined (i.e., fried squirrel to peanut butter, bacon and banana sandwiches) through interviews of Elvis’ cook, assistants and his eating chums. When Elvis left the building, fried food restaurants have been suffering ever since. What other rock star fetishes would support a whole doc? Wondering….
